Leonel Fernández Leads Fuerza del Pueblo Assemblies

Leonel Fernández, president of the Fuerza del Pueblo party, is heading provincial leadership assemblies across the Dominican Republic this weekend to prepare the organization for the 2028 general elections.

According to a party press release, the tour aims to review local goals, assess party growth, and strengthen organizational structures across every territory.

Fernández begins his itinerary on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. by leading the Duarte Provincial Leadership Assembly at the Ciudad Agropecuaria in San Francisco de Macorís. Later that evening at 6:00 p.m., he is scheduled to meet with local agricultural producers at the city's Club El Mayorista.

The tour continues on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in La Vega, where Fernández will participate in a provincial leadership assembly at the Oratorio Centro Juvenil Santo Domingo Savio. At 4:00 p.m., he will travel to Bonao in Monseñor Nouel province to preside over another leadership meeting at Cooperativa San Antonio.

Fernández, a former three-term president of the Dominican Republic, established Fuerza del Pueblo after leaving the ruling party in 2019. The organization has since developed into one of the Caribbean nation's primary opposition political forces.

Five Key Focus Areas

Fuerza del Pueblo stated that its national work plan centers on five core areas: organization, electoral strategy, political training, finances, and communications.

These priority sectors were established following an evaluation of the party's performance in the 2024 elections. Party officials will measure and evaluate targets periodically in each province to monitor progress.

The nationwide deployment comes approximately 18 months before municipal elections in February 2028, which will mark the first contest of the upcoming voting cycle. The party said it intends to reinforce its ground operations early, expand its voter base, and prepare campaign teams across the country.

Simultaneous Party Events

Alongside the main assemblies, the party held several simultaneous events on Saturday. More than 200 health professionals, including specialists in bioanalysis, psychology, pharmacy, and nursing, were sworn into the party's Health Secretariat during a ceremony led by secretariat head Ramón Alvarado at the Casa del Pueblo Johnny Ventura in Santo Domingo.

In Higüey, located in La Altagracia province, the party's Legal Affairs Secretariat conducted an educational conference on the institutional design of the Dominican electoral system. Presenter Manuel Mateo Calderón delivered the session, which was organized alongside the local Provincial Directorate and Political Training Secretariat to instruct leaders on electoral regulations.

On Saturday afternoon, the Casa del Pueblo Johnny Ventura also hosted a meeting with pensioned veterans of the Armed Forces and National Police. The event was organized by the Citizen Security Secretariat and led by party Secretary General Antonio Florián alongside secretariat head Josefina Reynoso.

Nationwide Structure Building

Fuerza del Pueblo reported that its provincial branches are concurrently holding local assemblies, work sessions, member registration drives, training workshops, and discussions with civic leaders.

Party officials emphasized that these combined efforts align territorial evaluations with leadership training, member recruitment, and public outreach ahead of the 2028 electoral process.
