The Peruvian Senate will debate on Wednesday whether to grant President Keiko Fujimori authorization to travel to El Salvador and Spain on official state visits.
The Executive branch submitted the formal request for Fujimori to visit El Salvador from October 28 to 31 following an invitation from Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele. The proposal also requests permission for her to travel to Madrid, Spain, from November 2 to 6 to attend the Ibero-American Summit.

The Senate Board of Spokespersons agreed to schedule the debate during a plenary session starting at 12:00 p.m. local time in Peru. In a statement, the Senate confirmed that legislative leaders unanimously approved rules allowing each senator to speak for up to one minute without interruptions during the floor debate.
Constitutional procedure for foreign trips
Under Peru's constitution, the president must obtain legislative authorization before leaving the national territory for official business abroad. The Senate, which acts as the upper chamber of the Peruvian Congress, reviews all executive international travel requests to ensure state diplomatic engagements align with foreign policy prior to taking a vote.
Diplomatic summits and international relations
The planned trips would mark important diplomatic engagements for the Peruvian administration in Central America and Europe. El Salvador, situated in Central America, maintains bilateral relations with Peru, and President Bukele extended a formal invitation to Fujimori for the October visit.
Following her trip to San Salvador, Fujimori is slated to travel to the Spanish capital of Madrid for the Ibero-American Summit. The high-level international gathering brings together heads of state and government from Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking nations across Latin America and Europe to discuss regional cooperation, economic integration, and multilateral policy.
The Senate plenary session on Wednesday will conclude with a vote to decide whether the president receives official authorization to undertake both international trips later this month and in early November.
