Julián Alexander, husband of television host Ethel Pozo, admitted he lied about his age to convince her to date him. He made the confession during a question-and-answer session the couple recorded for Pozo's YouTube channel.
Pozo and Alexander went on a romantic date after a year without going out alone together, and used the outing to open up about parts of their marriage. Asked what "white lie" he had told to secure a date with her, Alexander said he told Pozo he was older than he actually is. He explained he made that choice because he feared the daughter of television host Gisela Valcárcel would not agree to go out with him if she knew his real age.
Why Alexander added years to his age
The couple is three years apart in age, but Alexander said he decided to raise his stated age to avoid Pozo thinking he was too young. He said he quickly assessed the situation, reasoning that if he told her he was four years younger, she would say he was too much of a kid.
Pozo, surprised by the admission, immediately confronted him, telling him he had lied. Later, speaking separately to camera, she said Alexander described it as a white lie, one he claimed was necessary because otherwise they would never have gone out and she would not have agreed to date him. She said she still could not understand why he lied to her, noting he had added two years to his age, and said she would never forgive him for it.
A forgotten anniversary date
During the same date, the couple had another exchange tied to their relationship history. Pozo pointed out that Alexander did not know exactly when they had started dating, noting that his birthday falls shortly after that date.
Alexander tried to answer but gave the wrong date. Pozo then reminded him the exact day they began their relationship was April 6.
Speaking to camera afterward, Alexander explained he considers that date less significant now because it was effectively renewed by their wedding date. He said that once you get married, the earlier dating anniversary gets replaced and forgotten, and what matters afterward is the wedding date instead.
