Jaguar has revealed the interior of its £120,000 Type 01 electric grand tourer ahead of the car's world debut in New York on October 6, 2026. The flagship model spearheads the British automaker's rebrand into an ultra-luxury electric vehicle manufacturer competing against Aston Martin and Bentley.
The company, owned by Indian automotive giant Tata Motors, aims to reshape its image following criticism of its 2024 brand campaign, which drew pushback from figures including United States President Donald Trump. First United Kingdom deliveries of the new vehicle are scheduled for early 2027, with prices expected to range between £120,000 and £140,000.
The interior architecture features a central spine running the full length of the cabin. This structure creates four distinct seating areas and highlights what the manufacturer calls a longitudinal design philosophy intended to make every journey an occasion.
Occupants sit lower than in conventional electric vehicles because Jaguar split the 120kWh battery pack beneath the floor. This layout allows the seats to be mounted lower within the chassis and maintains a low roofline of approximately 1.4 metres.
During prototype test drives conducted in March, drivers reported a pronounced descent into the seating position, placing them deep within the vehicle frame. Test vehicles were covered with cloth screens and temporary panels to hide interior features prior to today's reveal.
The cabin contains four individual seats with broad backrests designed without panel stitching to maximize comfort. Interior door panels use electronic button releases instead of traditional handles, a feature that has drawn scrutiny in other vehicles and faces a regulatory ban in China starting next year.
Dashboard technology and digital displays
The dashboard replaces standard central touchscreens with a wide high-definition display extending across the driver instrument cluster and central dashboard. A smaller palm-sized screen integrated into the central spine controls heating, ventilation, air recirculation, and seat heating functions.
Drivers operate system controls through illuminated flush-mounted buttons on a twin-spoke Art Deco steering wheel. Jaguar described the digital setup as intelligently applied for control on demand, combining physical touch controls with voice commands.
A central Digital ClearSight Rear View Display sits at the base of the windscreen, streaming video from a camera on the roof to replace the traditional rear window. This setup mirrors the design adopted by the Polestar 4 and integrates into the front soundbar, eliminating the need for door-mounted speakers.
The design choices come as parent company Jaguar Land Rover manages broader corporate changes, including 300 planned job cuts in a cost-saving drive. Meanwhile, sister brand Land Rover is developing a Range Rover GT electric saloon that could compete directly with the Type 01, while rival Ferrari has reached its annual sales target for its first electric supercar.
Cabin materials and interior finish
The interior displays brass-inspired finishes along the central spine and upper door trims. The company's redesigned leaper emblem is embedded throughout the cabin as signature art pieces.
An expansive panoramic glass roof covers almost the entire ceiling to create an open glasshouse effect. Hidden storage compartments and unexpected accent colours reflect what the brand calls an exuberant modernist design theme.
Thomas Holden, chief interior designer at Jaguar, said: "Our holistic design philosophy translates the vehicle's exterior presence into a distinctive interior architecture. In contrast to the horizontal interior design norm, we emphasise its dramatic longitudinal nature through the central spine, an architectural statement that creates four individual spaces."
Holden added: "With authentic materials, technology on demand and reductive flowing surfaces, Type 01 presents unmistakable drama and theatre that will define the modern luxury automotive interior of the future."
Vehicle performance and specifications
The Type 01 uses an 850-volt electric architecture powered by three electric motors, with one motor mounted at the front axle and two at the rear. The powertrain produces more than 1,000 horsepower and delivers four-wheel drive through a single-speed automatic transmission.
Jaguar estimates the vehicle will accelerate from zero to 62 miles per hour in under 3.5 seconds. Torque vectoring technology monitors tire grip and wheel slip up to 1,000 times per second to distribute power between individual wheels.
The 120kWh battery delivers an estimated real-world driving range of 430 miles on a full charge. Fast-charging technology supports rates up to 350kW, allowing drivers to add 200 miles of range in 15 minutes.
The grand tourer measures approximately 5.2 metres in length, 2.0 metres in width, and 1.4 metres in height, with a curb weight of roughly 2,700 kilograms. It rides on 23-inch wheels.
Rawdon Glover, managing director of Jaguar, said the Type 01 is the first production vehicle to display the brand's new creative identity and stated it will be "unmistakable from every angle."
Glover said: "With Type 01, we wanted every journey to be an occasion, from how it drives to how it looks and how it makes you feel. With a confidence-inspiring GT driving position, clean and sophisticated technology and dramatic styling, Type 01 has an interior like no other."
