Gunther Gonzáles, a titular member of the National Elections Jury, stated that comments by board president Roberto Burneo on disguised reelection do not represent the electoral body.

Gonzáles distanced the institution from Burneo's remarks through an official letter sent to the media outlet. Burneo had acknowledged strategies used by some authorities to remain in office despite prohibitions on immediate reelection.
Disguised Reelection Controversy
The controversy followed the Special Electoral Jury of Lima Centro officializing the candidacy of Rafael López Aliaga for deputy mayor of Metropolitan Lima. López Aliaga would assume the mayoral candidacy for Renovación Popular after Luis Rubio resigned from the race.
Burneo said strategies were being created to circumvent the law and trigger access to positions from another angle. He added that a degree of continuity should be permitted because district administrators need longer tenure to organize neighborhoods better.
To date, no other titular members of the National Elections Jury plenary have commented on López Aliaga's candidacy or disguised reelection.
