France's Assurance Maladie has redesigned the annual statement available on Ameli accounts, according to a statement from the caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM). The update lets policyholders quickly review the payments they received the previous year.
The CPAM said the new statement allows insured people to easily check reimbursements, and makes it easier to see the total annual amount covered by Assurance Maladie. It added that the statement is also the only online service showing the cost of stays and care in hospitals or clinics.
Categories covered
The statement breaks payments and reimbursements into several categories: hospital and clinic stays and care; pharmacy costs; medical consultations and procedures with general practitioners and specialists; paramedical care, laboratory tests and transport; and daily allowances and maternity benefits. Policyholders can also view the same information for children still registered under their account.
Making health costs clearer
Assurance Maladie said the redesign reflects a wish to inform, explain and make the cost of care more understandable, and that the new visual format should help people better grasp how the health system works. The CPAM said it hopes this will encourage members to act more responsibly. It said that given current health challenges, including an ageing population and rising chronic illness, improving the relevance of care and the organisation of the system also requires better informing people about their own health spending. The new statement can be found under the "Frais de santé" section of an Ameli account.
