Eleni Karakasi completes foster care as child arrives home

Greek actress Eleni Karakasi has confirmed the completion of her foster care process after welcoming her foster child into her family home.

Karakasi shared the news during a broadcast of the television show Happy Day on Tuesday, October 6, revealing that the child is now living with her and her husband, Dimitris Tsinidelos.

Speaking on the morning program, Karakasi stated that children are an aspect of life that interests her deeply, noting that she and Tsinidelos had already been undergoing the state fostering procedure before reaching full completion.

State foster care procedure

The announcement follows earlier updates provided by Karakasi in June during an interview on the television program To Proino, where she outlined the steps involved in their fostering journey. At the time, she explained that they had matched with an eight-year-old child from Greece after opting for the national state process rather than an international framework.

Karakasi noted that their match occurred in under two years from submitting their initial application. She explained that their paperwork progressed relatively quickly because their foster care application had preceded other steps, adding that more children in Greece enter the foster care system than adoption channels.

In Greece, state foster care allows qualified adults to provide family placement and daily care for minors under public supervision, operating through separate administrative registries from final adoption procedures. Karakasi and Tsinidelos had maintained their foster application while preparing their household for the arrival.

Child adjustment and earlier timeline

Although Karakasi and her husband had completed household preparations and were ready to welcome the child starting around Christmas, the transition required additional time. Karakasi explained that the child faced difficulties adapting to the new environment due to being eight years old.

Public updates regarding the couple's fostering journey had emerged gradually over previous months. In May, Karakasi described the fostering experience as requiring intensive effort, remarking that the process brought periods of joy alongside emotional challenges.

By early June, Karakasi confirmed that they were awaiting the child's arrival while giving the eight-year-old time to feel emotionally ready for the transition. Later that month, she reiterated that while her household remained fully prepared, the couple was prioritizing the child's comfort during the adjustment period.

Karakasi is a prominent Greek theater and television actress known for her work across stage and screen. Following the completion of the formal procedure and the child's arrival home, the family has entered the next phase of their placement.
