The Dominican Republic’s ruling Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) will choose its new national leadership by acclamation at a National Assembly of Delegates set for August 9, according to the party’s internal elections commission.
The National Internal Elections Commission issued the call on Friday, stating that members of the National Committee, acting as delegates, will approve by acclamation the party’s president, vice presidents, secretary general and deputy secretaries general for the 2026-2028 term.
The assembly will take place at 9 a.m. at the Sheraton Hotel. The vote had originally been scheduled for August 2 before the date was changed. The party will present a single slate, meaning there will be no internal competition for the top leadership posts.
PRM officials currently hold the party presidency and secretary general positions: Jose Ignacio Paliza and Carolina Mejia, respectively. Ruling party figures have proposed that President Luis Abinader take over the party presidency, though Abinader has not said whether he will accept. Jean Luis Rodriguez, lawmaker Eugenio Cedeno and presidential administrative deputy minister Juan Garrigo Mejia have been mentioned as candidates for secretary general.
