Casio has added the F-B100W to its Japanese catalog, a digital watch that tracks daily steps and connects to a smartphone while keeping the classic coin-cell battery design instead of a rechargeable one. According to tech site HDblog, the watch runs for roughly two years on a single CR2016 battery and will go on sale in Japan this August for 8,800 yen, about 51 euros.
HDblog reported that Casio built the F-B100W around an idea already seen in other digital watches with pedometers and Bluetooth: fitting smart features into a familiar watch body rather than building a touchscreen device. The F-B100W has no touchscreen and does not push constant notifications, but it also does not need to be charged every few days or carried with an extra cable.
Retro looks hide added tracking hardware
The watch keeps a largely unchanged retro design, with a silhouette similar to the F-91W and an all-plastic build reminiscent of the 1978 F-100. The resin case measures 41.9 by 38.1 by 8.8 millimeters and the watch weighs just 26 grams.
Casio said the F-B100W will not replace the F-91W but will sell alongside it as a connected version of the classic digital watch. It comes in three versions: black with a clear display and colored details, all black with a negative display, and sage green with turquoise accents. All three share the same functions and use a resin strap made partly from bio-based plastic.
The main difference is the step count shown directly on the screen. An accelerometer tracks daily activity, displays an hourly graph, and lets users set goals between 1,000 and 50,000 steps in increments of 1,000. It can also alert the wearer after long periods without movement, without requiring a phone check.
Bluetooth connectivity expands those features through the Casio Watches app, where users can check activity history, change settings, and keep the time corrected automatically. The watch still tracks steps without needing the phone nearby, since the total step count and progress toward the goal appear on the LCD screen. It also includes a world time function covering about 300 cities and a phone-finder feature.
Two years of battery life alongside classic Casio functions
The F-B100W keeps the standard features found on classic Casio digital watches, including a stopwatch accurate to one hundredth of a second with memory for 200 laps or splits, a timer, five daily alarms, dual time, an hourly time signal, and an automatic calendar programmed through 2099. Its amber LED backlight can stay lit for either 1.5 or 3 seconds.
Casio said the CR2016 battery lasts about two years even with the motion sensor and Bluetooth running. The company has also updated its G-Shock line without adding Bluetooth or sensors, focusing instead on improvements like backlighting, while the F-B100W takes a middle path by adding activity tracking without turning the watch into another device that needs charging.
The F-B100W will cost 8,800 yen in Japan, around 51 euros, lower than the 61 to 87 euros suggested by earlier leaks. Pre-orders are already open and shipping is set to begin during August, though Casio has not announced a release date or price for Spain. The company also has not specified a water resistance rating in atmospheres, only stating that the watch is protected against water during daily use.
