Russian blogger Artemy Lebedev has declared that poor public relations is one of the biggest problems facing the people of Russia.

Speaking during a podcast published on the Russian digital platform VK Video, Lebedev said that Russians consistently struggle to promote their own initiatives effectively and fail to communicate their intentions to the public.
Lebedev argued that public relations in the country is always as bad as possible, calling it an ingrained national issue that cannot be cured. Using a traditional idiom for tone-deafness, he remarked that it is as though a bear stepped on the nation's ear, leaving people with no sense for effective messaging. He added that while Russians often believe they have phrased an idea properly, the end result sounds like absolute idiocy to listeners.
Online content moderation messaging
To illustrate his point, Lebedev cited Russian state requirements that compel internet platforms to remove illegal and prohibited online content.
The blogger described the process of demanding the removal of unlawful material from digital services as rational and correct. However, he argued that authorities and advocates frequently present the policy in an incorrect manner, which leads ordinary citizens to view the entire initiative with skepticism and negativity.
Russia has implemented stringent internet regulations over the past decade, directing state media watchdog Roskomnadzor to order the deletion of content that violates domestic law. Technology companies operating in the country face steep financial fines or access restrictions if they fail to remove flagged material promptly, making compliance a recurring subject of public debate.
Design career and past commentary
Lebedev is a prominent Russian designer and media personality who founded Art. Lebedev Studio in 1995. His firm played a pioneering role in the development of the Russian internet and produced major civic design projects, including navigation layouts for the Moscow Metro. Over the past decade, he has transitioned into a major social media commentator, publishing regular opinion videos and podcasts on state affairs and cultural matters.
VK Video, which hosted the podcast, is the primary video streaming service of VK, the technology conglomerate behind Russia's largest social media network. The company has invested heavily in expanding its video infrastructure and attracting top domestic creators as Russian authorities promote home-grown digital platforms over foreign competitors.
The podcast remarks follow previous observations by Lebedev about Russian public attitudes toward foreign nations. He previously described the public concern over what people in Europe think of Russia as a national weakness, arguing that his compatriots should be entirely indifferent to how Western countries judge the actions of the Russian state.
