An antimonopoly case opened against Apple Corporation by the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia will not affect iPhone users in Russia, according to Andrei Svintsov, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy. Svintsov told news agency TASS that citizens using Apple products will experience no impact and that devices will continue to work as they have.
The Federal Antimonopoly Service, known as FAS, initiated the case against Apple after it became known on August 3 that the corporation failed to comply with an earlier warning. The warning concerned the mandatory pre-installation of the Russian application store RuStore and the Max messaging application on devices running the iOS operating system.
Warning and potential fines
FAS had issued its warning to Apple on July 1 due to discriminatory conditions for Russian programs and systems, clarifying that the company failed to meet legal requirements to pre-install Russian software. The antimonopoly service reported that if Apple fails to execute the order, the corporation faces a fine of four billion rubles.
