The Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court has sentenced 41-year-old garbage truck driver Andrey Vasilyev to 21 years in a maximum-security prison for murder.
Regional officials from the Investigative Committee of Russia confirmed the sentence on August 31, 2026, following the conclusion of the criminal trial in the regional capital.
Judges found Vasilyev guilty of murder committed with particular cruelty, violent sexual assault, and robbery under the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Investigators established that the deadly attack occurred in August 2025 inside a forest belt near Dzerzhinsk. Vasilyev was intoxicated when he targeted 48-year-old Natalia Anisimova, a woman he did not know.
According to law enforcement authorities, Vasilyev strangled Anisimova before striking her on the head with a hammer and cutting her face with a knife. He then committed sexual violence against her, stole 8,000 rubles from her, and fled the scene.
Russian news outlet Gazeta.Ru reported that Vasilyev, a waste collection driver residing in Dzerzhinsk, had engaged in a bitter argument with his domestic partner over financial difficulties shortly before committing the assault.
The victim, Anisimova, served as a leading specialist in the social protection department of the local municipal administration and worked as a trainer in oriental dance.
Law enforcement officers arrested Vasilyev following an investigation by local homicide detectives. Authorities confirmed that Vasilyev subsequently gave a full confession to investigators.
