Nezlobin published an image of a confectionery package named Ural Ryzhik. He wrote on the platform that those who did not know should be aware that in the Urals a sweet prize is attached to the title of foreign agent.

News of the humorist being added to the official register of foreign agents emerged on Friday, August 28. According to the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, Nezlobin was included because he participated in creating and distributing materials produced by foreign agents and undesirable organizations. The ministry also cited his statements opposing the special military operation in Ukraine.

Designation as a foreign agent in Russia

Russia introduced its foreign agent legislation in 2012, initially targeting non-governmental organizations that received foreign funding. The legal framework was later expanded to cover media outlets, public figures, cultural personalities, and individual citizens. Persons designated as foreign agents by the Ministry of Justice face heavy administrative duties, including mandatory public disclaimers on all social media posts and regular financial disclosures. Russian authorities frequently place vocal critics of state policies and opponents of the military offensive on the list.

Nezlobin made his comments on Instagram, which is owned by Meta Corporation. Meta has been declared an extremist organization by Russian courts and is officially banned across the Russian Federation. The comedian's joke referenced his native region of Sverdlovsk Oblast, an administrative territory situated in the Ural Mountains of central Russia.

Relocation to the United States

Nezlobin has been residing in the United States since 2021. The comedian has previously stated that he considers the United States to be his home, while also noting that he has allowed for the possibility of visiting Russia in the future.
