Samsung has released an advertisement for its Galaxy Z Fold8 foldable smartphone starring a man named Tim Cook, though not the Apple executive who recently stepped down as chief executive. The man in the ad is a real estate agent based in New Zealand.
The campaign, produced by Samsung New Zealand, appeared just hours before Apple officially unveiled its own first foldable device, the iPhone Duo, at a Wednesday event.

A real estate agent named Tim Cook
In the video, Samsung hands its newest foldable phone to a real estate agent who happens to share a name with Apple's former chief executive. Samsung titled the clip "Tim Cook has an announcement. This time it's about Galaxy."
The timing appeared deliberate. Samsung also released a separate video titled "Welcome to the world of foldables" a few hours ahead of Apple's event.
The advert is the latest in a series of efforts by Samsung to promote the Galaxy Z Fold8 as the better device, while also drawing attention to the company's longer history in the foldable phone market.
Galaxy Z Fold8 versus iPhone Duo
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 in July at an Unpacked launch event in London. Samsung is the South Korean electronics company behind the Galaxy line of smartphones, while Apple, based in the United States, is the maker of the iPhone.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 has a 5.5-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch inner display, and weighs 201 grams, which Samsung calls the lightest Fold model it has produced. Its book-style design puts it in direct competition with the iPhone Duo, which also has a 7.6-inch inner screen but weighs 254 grams.
Since its announcement, the Galaxy Z Fold8 has seen strong sales, a result Samsung itself reportedly found surprising.
Apple's iPhone Duo was officially introduced this week as the company's first foldable phone.
