Notis Sfakianakis seen in rare photo on his 67th birthday

Popular Greek vocalist Notis Sfakianakis has emerged in a rare family photograph after celebrating his 67th birthday on Monday, November 2.

The image was published on social media by his nephew, Konstantinos Sfakianakis, offering the public a rare look at the performer, who has chosen to remain away from publicity and live nightclub performances in recent years.

In a message posted alongside the image on his personal Facebook account, Konstantinos expressed his appreciation for the singer and wished him good health. He wrote that he wanted his uncle to stay healthy, wherever and however he chose to be, adding that after everything the artist had offered through his career, he deserved that peace. He wished his uncle a happy birthday and stated that he wished him only health.

Tribute on Greek morning television

Konstantinos Sfakianakis spoke further about the artist during an appearance on the morning television programme To Proino, broadcast on Tuesday. He explained that his uncle remains in excellent physical health and that the family stays in continuous contact with him.

The nephew described the deep bond between them, explaining that he and his siblings lost their father at an early age. Since that time, his uncle had stood by them like a father, offering support across every part of their lives.

He added that his uncle's birthday had always served as a joyful annual milestone for their household, as well as for the broader public who love him. Until recently, the day was treated as an open celebration, bringing only happiness to the family circle.

Anniversary of personal loss

The date has now taken on a bittersweet tone because it coincides with the death of the singer's wife, Kili. She passed away one year ago, on the exact day of Notis Sfakianakis's birthday.

Speaking on television, Konstantinos explained that the day now stirs mixed emotions rather than uncomplicated joy. He stressed that Kili was the mother of the singer's children and far more than just an ordinary aunt to him, making her loss deeply felt throughout the entire family.

Speculation over return to the stage

The television discussion also turned to persistent public questions regarding whether the singer will ever resume live performances in Greece's major music halls, known locally as pistes. The artist has stepped back completely from the commercial nightlife scene where he once held top billing.

Konstantinos said that Sfakianakis himself is the only person qualified to answer questions about a possible stage comeback. He stated that if asked for his personal opinion, he believes his uncle will not return to the stage, though he emphasized that the decision rests solely with the singer.

Decades of musical prominence

Notis Sfakianakis is widely regarded as one of the most commercially successful figures in modern Greek popular folk music, known as laiko. Over a recording career spanning several decades, his albums achieved massive platinum sales and his concerts drew devoted followings across Greece and Cyprus.

The Greek entertainment industry relies heavily on seasonal residencies in large Athens music halls, where prominent vocalists perform into the early morning hours. Sfakianakis dominated these venues for years before beginning an extended withdrawal from public engagements, making any fresh appearance or family update a subject of intense national attention.
