The listing on the official database portal of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine was reported by Russian state news agency TASS. Ukrainian intelligence cited Baskov's decision to publish a letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin on social media as one of the primary reasons for his inclusion.

Baskov, who holds the state title of People's Artist of Russia, has also joined the Putin Team movement backing the Russian leader. According to the database entries cited by TASS, the performer has regularly taken part in mass public events staged in support of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The Ukrainian registry also recorded financial and cultural assistance provided by the singer. Baskov donated one million rubles to the Russian army in 2022, and in November 2024 he staged a charity concert for the Heroes of Our Time project, an initiative organised to assist Russian service members and their families.

Support for Russian armed forces

Ukrainian authorities also pointed to Baskov's media appearances and travel. The intelligence database highlighted his participation in the 2024 edition of Goluboy Ogonyok, the traditional televised New Year gala, which featured Russian military personnel among the invited guests in the studio.

The database further noted trips Baskov took to regions that Kyiv considers Ukrainian territory, saying the visits were conducted to demonstrate support for Russia. The portal also cited the singer for sharing birthday congratulations on social media that he had received personally from Vladimir Putin.

Baskov is one of Russia's most prominent cultural personalities, known nationwide as a classical tenor, television presenter and pop entertainer. Trained at prestigious musical academies, he rose to prominence in major opera houses before building a prolific career in mainstream television entertainment and stadium concerts across the country.

War and Sanctions database

The register that includes Baskov forms part of the War and Sanctions database, an official platform operated by Ukraine's Main Directorate of Intelligence. The project compiles files on foreign public figures, artists and businesses that Ukrainian authorities regard as backing the Russian military campaign.

Baskov is not the first high-profile Russian musician targeted by the Ukrainian military intelligence registry. Ukrainian authorities previously added fellow People's Artist of Russia Philipp Kirkorov, a veteran pop star often described as the king of Russian pop, to the same database.

The War and Sanctions portal continues to expand its public records as Ukrainian intelligence tracks prominent cultural figures who promote state initiatives or perform for military audiences. The listings document support provided to the Russian armed forces and maintain scrutiny on entertainers who align themselves with the Russian government.
