Greek actress Katy Finou has responded to social media criticism regarding her residence at The Actors' House in Athens, stating her stay is driven by financial necessity.
In a personal statement, Finou clarified that living at the facility is not a choice of convenience, but the result of severe economic hardship caused by low theatrical earnings that fail to cover basic living expenses.
Finou expressed deep bitterness over the intensity of negative comments directed at her online, particularly claims alleging that she receives state benefits or generates significant income through videos posted on TikTok.
Financial struggles and theatre pay
Addressing critics in a video shared on Instagram, Finou said she had never anticipated such malice regarding her extended stay at the non-profit foundation. She explained that she does not currently work in television and that her earnings from stage acting are insufficient to cover basic costs, including rent and shared building utilities.
Finou added that she felt very sorry for those accusing her of relying on government subsidies or earning large sums of money on social media platforms.
Clarification on Elliniko skyscraper comments
Finou also addressed backlash over a separate statement in which she said she was ashamed to be Greek while commenting on the construction of a skyscraper in Elliniko. She noted that people frequently express frustration with societal problems by using that phrase, each for their own individual reasons.
She emphasized that she chose to move past the controversy, stating that those who know her understand her true character and intentions, before addressing the aggressive manner in which her critics express themselves.
