Peruvian businesswoman and television personality Alejandra Baigorria filed a lawsuit against journalist Magaly Medina, but a judge rejected the case and ordered its immediate dismissal, according to Medina's own television program.
The disclosure did not come from a third party but from Medina's show itself. In a preview of its Tuesday, September 17 broadcast on ATV, "Magaly TV, La Firme" confirmed that the businesswoman had filed the suit and revealed how the case had ended.
What the Preview Revealed
A video shared on social media to promote the episode stated that, with solid arguments, a judge had rejected Baigorria's lawsuit against Medina. The announcement quickly drew reactions from viewers who have been following the dispute between Baigorria and Medina, a veteran Peruvian television host and journalist popularly known as "la Urraca," or "the Magpie," for her long-running program of celebrity exposes.
According to ATV's program, the court ordered the "immediate archiving" of the case, though it gave no further details on the specific accusation the businesswoman had brought. Baigorria had earlier signaled she was prepared to defend herself, not over Medina's comments about her personal life, but over what she considered direct damage to her businesses.
The Yacht Video Behind the Feud
The legal dispute traces back to an exposé Medina aired showing Baigorria's husband, reality television personality Said Palao, at a party in Argentina with fellow reality star Mario Irivarren and several women aboard a yacht. In Peruvian entertainment media, this kind of secretly filmed exposé is known locally as an "ampay."
What had appeared to be only a public threat from Baigorria after the footage aired turned into an actual legal action, though the courts dismissed the case entirely, according to what was shown on the television program.
Baigorria's Public Complaints
After rumors of a crisis in her relationship with Palao, which later gave way to signs of reconciliation, Baigorria broke down publicly and accused Medina of directly harming her business activities. Baigorria, popularly known as the "Gringa de Gamarra" after her clothing business based in Lima's Gamarra garment district, spoke at Lima's airport upon returning from a trip, saying she would not allow anyone to interfere with her business.
In a separate interview on a podcast co-hosted by her former partner, television personality and race car driver Mario Hart, Baigorria, a former reality television contestant, reaffirmed that she would not overlook Medina's comments about her business, accusing the host of targeting her for more than a decade.
Baigorria said she had grown tired of the situation, and that Medina meddling with her business was the worst thing the host could have done, adding that it was then that Medina effectively sealed her fate with her. She said she could normally stay very calm, but that there comes a point in her life when she no longer can. She said this happened over her clothing brand, Agarra tu Gringa, claiming Medina had minimized her work and practically accused her of deceiving customers, asserting that her charitable initiative was funded by only 1% of the business's profits.
