Peruvian footballer Jean Deza has been filmed in a heated dispute with a gas station worker who accused his two friends of stealing chewing gum. The 33-year-old former Alianza Lima player confronted the employee inside a store located within the service station facility after she challenged his companions over the alleged theft.
The incident was captured on video by the employee and quickly circulated across social media platforms, drawing renewed public criticism towards the footballer. Footage of the encounter shows Deza stepping in to defend his companions as the verbal exchange escalated inside the store.
Gas station altercations
During the argument, Deza made controversial remarks directed at the female worker, who is of Venezuelan nationality. He was recorded telling the employee that she was operating under the radar in his country and pointed out that she was filming the argument. The comments were widely interpreted as derogatory toward the foreign national.
The worker refused to back down during the confrontation and responded to the Peruvian footballer in a matching tone. Service stations in Peru, locally known as grifos, commonly feature on-site convenience stores catering to motorists and local residents.
Off-pitch controversies
The altercation marks the latest in a series of off-pitch controversies involving Deza, coming just weeks after he was involved in a street fight in the coastal port city of Callao. That earlier brawl was also recorded on video and heavily criticised online after local residents reported that Deza had returned to the scene with reinforcements to continue the fight.
In addition to the public brawls, Deza has previously faced allegations of domestic violence made by former partners. His repeated involvement in non-sporting conflicts has continually overshadowed his career on the pitch.
Football career status
Deza is currently without a team, although he has been in talks to sign with Domingo Dianderas, a football club based in Chincha Alta in southern Peru. The club is managed by Peruvian businessman and comedian Jorge Luna and competes in the National Stage of the 2026 Copa Peru tournament.
Alianza Lima, where Deza previously played, is one of Peru's most established professional football clubs. The Copa Peru is a national tournament that provides semi-professional teams from various regions a pathway to top-tier Peruvian football. However, ongoing extrasporting controversies have raised doubts over Deza's future prospects and whether he can rebuild his credibility within professional football.
