Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis has ordered disciplinary proceedings against staff at Dafni Psychiatric Hospital after three union workers allegedly verbally abused and insulted him while he was on site overseeing the evacuation of patients during a nearby fire.
In a social media post, Georgiadis described the conduct as a serious disciplinary offense, particularly given that a patient-protection operation was underway at the time. He said he had already instructed authorities to file a formal report under the Civil Service Code.
The minister also said the workers involved are politically connected to the extra-parliamentary left, and that the head of the workers’ union arrived shortly afterward and attempted to stage a public protest.
Georgiadis said such behavior has no place in the national public health system, adding that public health facilities must operate with cooperation and respect, especially in emergencies.
