Ukraine's euro exchange rate reached a record high of 52.25 hryvnias for August 24 after the National Bank of Ukraine weakened the local currency.

The National Bank of Ukraine set the official euro exchange rate at a historic high of 52.25 hryvnias for Monday, August 24, as the Ukrainian currency continued to lose value against major foreign currencies.

According to data published on the central bank website, the hryvnia dropped by 12 kopiykas against the euro compared to the previous setting. The rate surpassed the prior record high of 52.13 hryvnias set on August 21. Against the United States dollar, the official rate was established at 44.66 hryvnias per dollar, marking a weakening of 5 kopiykas for the Ukrainian currency.

The National Bank of Ukraine serves as the country's central monetary authority, setting daily official exchange rates that serve as benchmarks across the national financial system. The Ukrainian hryvnia is divided into 100 kopiykas.

Interbank market rates

Trading on the Ukrainian interbank currency market closed with hryvnia quotes positioned at 44.65 to 44.68 hryvnias per dollar by 4:00 p.m. For the euro, interbank market quotes settled between 52.24 and 52.27 hryvnias per euro.

Commercial bank prices

Commercial bank exchange rates showed mixed movements on August 21. The average dollar rate in Ukrainian banks fell by 4 kopiykas to 44.95 hryvnias per dollar, while clients could sell American currency at an average rate of 44.47 hryvnias per dollar. Meanwhile, the average bank rate for the euro increased by 9 kopiykas to 52.49 hryvnias per euro, with an average purchase rate for clients selling European currency standing at 51.80 hryvnias per euro.

At PrivatBank, Ukraine's largest commercial lender, exchange rates held steady. The bank kept its dollar rate unchanged at 44.85 hryvnias per dollar, allowing customers to sell American currency at 44.25 hryvnias. PrivatBank also maintained its euro rate at 52.55 hryvnias per euro, while offering to buy euro from customers at 51.55 hryvnias per unit.
