Mobile firing groups in Crimea have received new Nabat V.3 drone detectors capable of scanning low-altitude airspace in a designated dead zone, according to official reports.

The portable equipment enables defense teams to monitor the airspace at altitudes ranging from zero to 100 meters. Russian state news agency TASS reported the deployment, citing information provided by the Center for Unmanned Systems and Technologies.



The organization stated that the portable detector kits are currently in active use by more than 50 mobile units, as well as on sea-based naval craft operating in the region.

According to the Center for Unmanned Systems and Technologies, the compact devices help mobile firing groups react instantly to emerging aerial threats in low and medium airspace.

Mobile firing groups are specialized rapid-response units equipped to detect and engage low-flying targets, such as small unmanned aerial vehicles. In tactical air defense, a dead zone refers to low-altitude airspace near the ground or sea level where conventional long-range radar systems often experience blind spots due to terrain, curvature, or low altitude. Crimea is a peninsula situated on the northern coast of the Black Sea, where naval and ground-based defense units operate.

Airspace monitoring and drone detection

The latest delivery follows previous developments in Russian drone detection technology. In July, the developer of the detection equipment informed TASS that its Ten drone detectors would be capable of detecting Hornet kamikaze drones supplied to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Kamikaze drones, also known as loitering munitions, are airborne weapon systems designed to loiter around a target area before striking. Ukrainian forces have received various models of unmanned aerial vehicles during the conflict. The Ten detector was developed as a specialized sensor to spot such low-profile airborne threats.

Electronic warfare equipment rollout

Earlier in the year, additional defense hardware was delivered to frontline troops. In May, a representative of the Kroniks design bureau told the newspaper Izvestia that Russian service members had begun receiving new Lyustra 5-30 electronic warfare systems.

The representative stated that the Lyustra 5-30 systems are designed to protect military vehicles and equipment from incoming drone strikes by jamming target control signals.

The Center for Unmanned Systems and Technologies and the Kroniks design bureau are among the Russian entities developing counter-drone hardware and electronic warfare solutions. TASS is a state-owned Russian news agency headquartered in Moscow, while Izvestia is a major national daily newspaper in Russia.
