Bike Makers Race to Build Safer Cycles, TF1 Says

Bicycle manufacturers are racing to build the safest possible bike as cyclists, growing in number, remain vulnerable to accidents even as car safety technology keeps advancing, according to a report broadcast on TF1's morning programme Bonjour! La Matinale on 10 September 2026.

The segment, part of TF1's recurring feature "C'est déjà demain" (It's Already Tomorrow), was presented by technology journalist Anicet Mbida. He said that while carmakers have made major progress in protecting drivers and passengers, no equivalent leap has yet reached people on two wheels, and that bicycle makers have now entered a race for innovation to design the safest bike possible.

A recurring look at new technology

"C'est déjà demain" is a regular slot on Bonjour!, TF1's early-morning news and lifestyle programme, in which Mbida reports on emerging gadgets and technologies before they reach the wider market. The 10 September edition ran three minutes and twenty seconds and was produced by the video editorial team at TF1info.

Car safety has advanced steadily over recent decades with the spread of features such as anti-lock brakes, airbags and driver-assistance systems that can detect obstacles and brake automatically. Cycling has also grown in many cities in recent years as more commuters look for cheaper and greener ways to travel, leaving bike safety technology to catch up.

Gaining a few crucial seconds

A headline promoting the segment framed the new devices around the idea of gaining two to three seconds, which it said could make all the difference in avoiding a collision. The report focused on the broader push within the cycling industry to close that safety gap with the car sector, rather than on any single manufacturer or product.

The segment was published under TF1's "Technological innovations" and "Road safety" tags as part of the Bonjour! La Matinale TF1 programme.
