Chinese electronics maker Bigme has announced the HiBreak Dual 3, an Android smartphone featuring a color E Ink display and a detachable secondary IPS screen. The niche handset pairs electronic paper technology with a traditional liquid crystal display to offer distinct modes for reading and media.
The device runs on Android 16 out of the box and is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 system-on-chip. For a niche model, the handset carries generous memory options, offering 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM alongside 256 GB or 512 GB of flash storage.
Dual display design
The primary display of the HiBreak Dual 3 is a color E Ink panel. Bigme said the electronic paper screen reaches a refresh rate of up to 85 Hz, an unusually high figure for E Ink technology. Electronic ink displays simulate traditional paper by reflecting ambient light, making them easier on the eyes and far more energy-efficient than standard screens. The main display is tailored for reading books and documents, text processing, and tasks where eye comfort is essential. It also supports stylus input, allowing the phone to function as a digital notepad for handwritten notes.

When users want to watch video reels or play games, the handset utilizes its secondary IPS panel. IPS displays provide traditional full-color rendering and faster response times suited for dynamic graphics. The secondary screen attaches to the back of the smartphone using magnets and connects through metallic contacts, which also deliver power to the panel.
Hardware specifications and availability
Under the hood, the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 processor provides 5G connectivity and dual-SIM support for simultaneous operation with two mobile lines.
Bigme has not yet revealed details regarding pricing or when the HiBreak Dual 3 will go on sale. Several key specifications also remain unannounced, including the diagonal sizes and resolutions of both screens, battery capacity, camera specifications, dimensions, and weight. The company has also not stated whether the magnetic secondary screen will ship in the box or be sold separately as an accessory.
