Jackie, the well-known female eagle from Big Bear, is in critical condition as veterinary teams in Ventura County work to save her life. Jackie became famous for raising several eaglets with her partner, Shadow.
The Ojai Raptor Center said in a Facebook post on Sunday afternoon that the last 24 hours had been extremely difficult, and that Jackie remained seriously ill with her condition currently unstable.
Rescued After Fight With Two Eagles
Jackie has been under the center's care for three weeks after being rescued following a violent clash with two other eagles. She later became severely ill and was described by the center as anemic.
Blood Levels Remain Critically Low
Her packed cell volume had dropped to 6 percent on Saturday before rising slightly to 9 percent on Sunday, the center said. It called the rise a small improvement but said her hematocrit remained critically low and her overall condition extremely serious. Just weeks earlier, her hematocrit had stood at 17 percent. The center said, according to ScrippsNews, that no newer health updates were available, adding that its full attention remained on Jackie's wellbeing and that every decision continued to be guided by her medical condition and her best interest.
