Apple sets September 9 event for iPhone 18 Pro and Ultra

Apple has officially confirmed the date of its next major product launch, scheduling the presentation for September 9 at 20:00 Kyiv time at its Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Carrying the slogan Surprise and Shine, the autumn showcase will mark the company's first presentation under new leadership following the appointment of John Ternus as chief executive officer. Ternus replaces outgoing chief executive Tim Cook as head of Apple on September 1.

Foldable iPhone Ultra and Hardware Lineup

According to reporting by tech publication Engadget, Apple is set to present its new flagship iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max smartphones during the event, alongside the Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, and fifth-generation AirPods Pro. Meanwhile, rumors indicate that the entry-level base iPhone 18 model has been postponed until the spring of 2027.

The centerpiece of the September showcase will be Apple's first foldable smartphone, which will be called the iPhone Ultra. The handset adopts a book-style form factor akin to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series, but features unique proportions: a wider, squarer inner display resembling an iPad mini, paired with an outer display matching the width of an iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 13 mini.

Camera Upgrades and 2-Nanometer Processor

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will feature a main camera with a variable aperture for the first time. In addition, the size of the Dynamic Island screen cutout will decrease by approximately 35 percent after engineers relocated the infrared projector underneath the display.

The primary hardware upgrade across the Pro lineup is the new A20 Pro processor, built on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's initial 2-nanometer fabrication process. The semiconductor upgrade is credited with delivering roughly 15 percent higher performance and up to about 30 percent better power efficiency.

Software Announcements and Product Pipeline

During the autumn event, Apple will also announce official release dates for its next generation of operating systems, including iOS 27 and watchOS 27 alongside other software platforms.

Beyond the immediate event lineup, Apple has several other products in active development that may be announced either during the September event or later in 2026. These upcoming devices include the 12th-generation iPad, a refreshed Apple TV media player, and a new HomePod smart speaker.
