Former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras completed his new political documentary trilogy in Athens on Friday, launching the final film for the Greek Left Coalition.
The closing installment features footage from the movement's founding declaration at Thiseio in Athens and incorporates reflections from participants across different age groups and backgrounds. The project was curated by associates of Tsipras to mark the public launch of the new political initiative, known locally as ELAS.
The final film frames the movement as a convergence of individual social journeys into collective political action. Narrators in the production state that the coalition arose from a shared responsibility for the nation's present and future, driven by a public desire to build a new collective political identity.
Reflections on political past and future
Tsipras, who serves as president of ELAS, addressed past political shortcomings during his appearance in the film. He compared launching a new party to an athlete attempting a high jump, noting that the primary fear is failing to clear the bar.
He acknowledged that certain matters should have been handled differently during his career, admitting that his previous efforts included mistakes and unfulfilled goals. He stated that his primary concern now is establishing the new initiative on solid foundations so that it can endure over the long term.
Tsipras previously served as Prime Minister of Greece from 2015 to 2019 and led the Coalition of the Radical Left, known as Syriza, during the height of the Greek government debt crisis. The historic district of Thiseio, where the coalition held its founding declaration, sits in central Athens near the Acropolis and has traditionally hosted major political gatherings.
Three-part documentary series
The release on Friday marked the conclusion of a three-part media rollout organized by the party. The first documentary in the series was released on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, and featured Tsipras emphasizing his conviction in the fundamental distinction between the political Left and Right.
That same day, former politician Symeon Kedikoglou announced his decision to join ELAS, sharing a promotional video that incorporated visual themes from Christopher Nolan's film Odyssey.
The second documentary, released on Thursday, August 20, 2026, focused on youth engagement. In that installment, Tsipras met with young citizens and told them that he and his team had come to listen to their concerns rather than to instruct or guide them.

The final documentary also highlights statements from ordinary citizens participating in the movement. One contributor noted that a central belief driving their involvement was the conviction that people can transform society when they work together.
Another participant stated that social injustice serves as the primary trigger for political engagement, explaining how systemic fairness concerns can turn into constructive anger. A third contributor argued that active participation is the only path to meaningful change, emphasizing that no obstacle should prevent citizens from getting involved.
That same contributor acknowledged that progressive voters in Greece have experienced widespread disappointment in recent years and are looking for renewed hope. Other speakers in the documentary focused on public apathy and societal expectations. One participant called for greater empathy and less indifference toward civic life, while another warned that accepting the status quo is a dangerous state of mind. That speaker criticized the widespread belief that all politicians are identical and that nothing will ever change.
