Journalists at the publication listed several security settings that users must not ignore to ensure their personal computers remain protected from online threats. The portal reported that safe operation on Windows depends on activating and properly configuring a series of internal protective functions.
First and foremost, specialists at BGR urged users to activate Windows Hello. The feature allows individuals to sign into their personal computers using a fingerprint scanner or biometric sensor rather than relying solely on traditional passwords.
Essential firewall and Defender settings
Following the initial setup of Windows, the authors recommended turning on the operating system's built-in firewall. Located within the Privacy and Security section of system settings, the firewall monitors, analyzes, and blocks malicious internet traffic before it can compromise the machine.
The experts also highlighted the importance of activating Microsoft Defender, built into the operating system as its primary antivirus protection. The program continuously monitors system interactions with various files and software applications to stop unauthorized intrusions.
Additionally, specialists advised using Windows while signed in with an official Microsoft account. Setting up a user profile with Microsoft provides the ability to synchronize personal data across multiple devices and enables users to transfer their operating system license smoothly when upgrading to a new computer.
