Cybercriminals are distributing fake Grand Theft Auto 6 demo versions through fraudulent websites masquerading as official Rockstar Games portals, cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes reported.
Instead of receiving a playable build of the anticipated action game, victims who download the files infect their devices with an infostealer program designed to harvest sensitive personal credentials from web browsers and system applications.
Malwarebytes said the malicious software extracts saved passwords, browser cookies, active session data, browsing history, and autofill information. The security firm warned that login credentials stored inside File Transfer Protocol client programs are also at risk of theft.
