Kyiv City State Administration official Petro Panteleiev said each Russian ballistic missile attack on the capital causes between 300 and 500 million hryvnias in damage.
Panteleiev, the acting first deputy head of the administration, stated in an interview with LB.ua that city authorities must constantly redirect municipal funds to repair damaged housing stock. He said clearing the aftermath of Russian missile strikes and restoring homes has become one of Kyiv's most difficult and noticeable budget expenses, drawing money away from other pressing city priorities.
According to Panteleiev, spending on constructing and repairing bomb shelters is just as vital as funding the city's Resilience Plan. He said that although tax revenues in Kyiv remain stable, the city no longer sees the budget surpluses common in previous years, leaving local authorities with no excess money.
Casualties and targeted infrastructure
The financial warning comes after heavy Russian bombardment hit the region. During the most recent ballistic attack on Kyiv and the surrounding Kyiv region, 17 people were killed and 44 others were injured. Russian missiles primarily targeted infrastructure, railway stations, and warehouse premises belonging to civilian businesses.
Casualties were also reported in earlier strikes across the capital. On the night of August 1, Russian strikes in Kyiv killed nine civilians and injured 33 people, including four children.
