The 2nd Western District Military Court has sentenced 23-year-old Daniil Pavlov, a resident of Kursk, to 16 years in prison for espionage and assisting the terrorist organization Legion "Freedom of Russia," which is banned in Russia. TASS reported the verdict, citing the court's press service.
Pavlov was found guilty of treason, participating in the activities of a terrorist organization, and laundering money obtained through the crime. He will spend the first three years of his sentence in prison before being transferred to a strict-regime penal colony. The court also ordered the seizure of 20,000 rubles that Pavlov received for the crime.
According to the court, Pavlov gathered state secrets for Ukrainian intelligence services to be used against Russia's security, intending to defect to the other side.
Similar case in Zaporizhzhia region
A separate case was reported earlier involving Marina Meshkova, a resident of the Zaporizhzhia region, who was convicted under Russia's treason statute and sentenced to 14 years in prison. Between December 2023 and April 2024, she transferred money to an account belonging to Legion "Freedom of Russia."
