Garmin Fenix 9 smartwatch debuts with 29-day battery life

Garmin has launched its Fenix 9 smartwatch featuring a brighter AMOLED display, upgraded memory, and battery life lasting up to 29 days.

The new device succeeds the Fenix 8 in Garmin's flagship outdoor wearable lineup. Prices start at $1,000, with retail sales set to begin on August 28.

Garmin offers the Fenix 9 in three case sizes measuring 43 mm, 47 mm, and 51 mm. Both the 43 mm and 47 mm versions carry a starting price of $1,000, while the larger 51 mm model costs $1,100.

Hardware upgrades focus on display clarity and onboard memory. The device features a 1.4-inch AMOLED display. According to Garmin, the screen delivers twice the brightness of the display found on the preceding Fenix 8 model.

AMOLED displays use self-illuminating pixels to deliver high contrast and vibrant visuals. Internal storage on the smartwatch has doubled to 64 GB, while random access memory (RAM) has increased by 50 percent.

Garmin said the updated hardware configuration allows digital map scaling and panning to run faster across the watch interface. Expanded storage permits users to hold larger offline topographic maps and files on the device.

Battery performance and tracking metrics

Battery performance varies depending on the chosen case size. The 43 mm model operates for up to 10 days on a single charge, the 47 mm model reaches up to 16 days, and the 51 mm model provides up to 29 days of battery life.

New software capabilities include Stamina Curve and Stamina Zones tracking metrics, along with expanded features designed for training routines involving a rucksack. The smartwatch also introduces Garmin Epic, a feature that consolidates activity and health data over extended periods.

For water protection, the device meets the 10 ATM water resistance standard. A 10 ATM rating indicates that the watch casing can endure water pressure equivalent to a depth of 100 meters, making it suitable for surface swimming and high-velocity marine sports.

Product lineup and recent updates

Garmin is an American technology company known for manufacturing GPS navigation systems and endurance sports wearables. Its Fenix series represents the brand's primary line of multisport GPS smartwatches built for outdoor navigation and athletic tracking.

The Fenix 9 release follows several other recent product updates from the company. Garmin previously announced its first screenless fitness tracker, which delivers up to 10 days of battery life without a recharge.

In January 2026, Garmin received an application that guides users on when to drink their final cup of coffee for the day. The company has also released a refreshed version of its Garmin Venu X1 smartwatch in a Soft Gold color finish.
