Police in the Siberian city of Biysk have opened a criminal case against a local parent who helped detain an armed man shooting at children. The parent tripped the fleeing suspect to assist officers, causing the gunman to fall and suffer minor bruises.
Russian law enforcement launched the investigation for causing harm to health after all involved parties filed cross complaints against each other.
According to the Telegram news channel Ostorozhno Novosti, the conflict began on August 8 when a group of children aged seven to 12 were walking to visit friends. On their way, the group met two girls they knew who were accompanied by their three year old brother. The children began playing tag, during which the 12 year old girl picked up the toddler.
The toddler's mother, who was heavily intoxicated, saw the girl lift her son and began shouting profanities at the teenager. She accused the 12 year old girl of attempting to kidnap the boy and summoned her husband. Her husband, who was also drunk, grabbed a pneumatic pistol and opened fire on the group of children.
Shooting and Property Intrusion
Fleeing from the gunfire, the children ran to the nearby home of the 12 year old girl's 64 year old grandmother. The frightened children were unable to close the yard gate in time to block the attacker. The armed man forced his way onto the private property, where he began throwing buckets and other objects under his feet.
When the 64 year old homeowner attempted to guide the intruder off her property, the man struck her in the stomach with his gun. Neighbors and children who witnessed the violent confrontation quickly called police and parents for help.
One of the parents arrived at the location and helped police officers detain the rowdy suspect by tripping him as he attempted to run away. While being taken into custody, the suspect threatened onlookers with physical retaliation. The boy's mother also threatened the neighbors, promising to burn their houses down while they slept.
Police Investigation and Regional Context
Following the altercation, all participants filed formal statements against each other with law enforcement. However, authorities in Biysk have currently opened a criminal case only against the parent who assisted police, charging him with causing harm to health after the suspect suffered bruises during the fall.
