Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, head of the Military Educational and Scientific Center Naval Academy, said naval robotic systems could exclude foreign navies from military conflicts against Russia. Writing in the journal Military Thought, Evmenov stated that forming an advanced naval echelon based on these systems could diminish foreign naval capabilities.
In his article, titled The Role of Naval Robotic Systems in Strategic Actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Evmenov assessed that naval robotic systems can perform reconnaissance and other mission types in addition to strike tasks.
Recent Sea Drone Deployments
Russian forces have recently expanded their deployment of uncrewed vessels. In July, newspaper Izvestia reported that the 18th Army of the Russian Armed Forces began using the Pegasus uncrewed boat on the Dnieper River.
In the same month, Izvestia reported that the Marine Underwater Weapons - Gidropribor concern began protecting Russian ports with Korvet complexes designed to counter saboteurs, underwater craft, and enemy uncrewed boats.
