Brazilian streamer Adalton Rodrigues lost his ring finger after catching a piece of jewelry on a fence while trying to scale the perimeter of the Rock in Rio music festival in Rio de Janeiro.
Rodrigues, who broadcasts online under the name Lodk, possessed a valid admission ticket to the event. However, he attempted to enter the complex through an unauthorized route by climbing over an outer barrier to test how well security guarded the premises while recording video.
Security breach at Cidade do Rock
The incident occurred at Cidade do Rock, a dedicated concert park located in the Barra da Tijuca district of Rio de Janeiro. Constructed specifically to host Rock in Rio, one of the largest international music festivals in the world since its founding in 1985, the expansive venue uses perimeter fencing and security checkpoints to handle massive crowds.
While scaling the enclosure, a ring on Rodrigues' ring finger caught on an exposed protrusion along the fence structure, inflicting severe trauma. Rodrigues said he did not notice the severity of the injury immediately after clearing the barrier.
A companion accompanying the streamer spotted the severed digit left hanging on the fence. Rodrigues said he looked at his hand and saw only bone remaining where his finger had been. He explained that while the digit had not been entirely torn off during the accident, all of the skin had been stripped away.
Rodrigues was taken to a local hospital where medical staff performed a surgical amputation on the damaged digit. The blogger later admitted that he regretted his decision to attempt the climb. Footage documenting the incident was subsequently posted on the social media network X.
Risks in digital content creation
Live content creators often attempt public stunts or challenge videos to engage online audiences across social platforms. Medical experts frequently warn against wearing rings while climbing or performing physical activities, as catching jewelry on rigid objects can cause severe soft tissue stripping or traumatic amputation.
The accident follows another high-profile broadcast incident involving a content creator. Streamer SweaterGxd, whose real name is Adrian Sandoval, touched Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Quinton Jackson in an intimate manner during a live stream, prompting the former light heavyweight champion to punch Sandoval in the face.
