National Savings and Investments crowned two new Premium Bonds millionaires in its August draw, announced Monday, taking the total number of savers who have won the £1million top prize since the tier was introduced in 1994 to more than 550, according to analysis by This is Money.

One of the new millionaires, from Kent, won one of the two seven-figure prizes with a bond bought only in February 2026. Another millionaire, made in June's draw, also bought their winning bond in February 2026, meaning the prize landed just 120 days after purchase.

Bonds bought in 2022 lead recent winners

This is Money's number crunching shows that in the past year, a quarter of the 24 millionaires made by NS&I bought their bonds in 2022. This was followed by 2024, with five winners, and 2015, with three. Two winners had bought their bonds this year, with two more wins also going to bonds bought in 2025 and 2014. Meanwhile, 2023, 2019 and 2016 each produced one millionaire winner. The oldest bond to win was in February's draw, bought in October 2004.

Quick win: Some Premium Bond millionaires have been created within 59 days of purchase

One in 12 winners strike within five months

There have been 42 winners of the £1million jackpot since 1994 within five months of purchase, or roughly one in 12 of all winners, the analysis found. Over the past decade, 22 savers have scooped £1million within 100 days of buying their bond.

Fastest winners took just 59 days

The quickest wins came after just 59 days: a saver in Bedfordshire in March 2018, who held £7,500 in Premium Bonds, and a saver in Surrey in March 1997, who held £10,100. Premium Bonds only become eligible to win a full month after purchase. Eight savers won 61 days after buying, including one in Gloucestershire in December 1995 whose holding was just £1,026. Three further winners struck lucky after 62 days.

Average winner waits five and a half years

Despite these speedy wins, the analysis found the average jackpot winner over the past year had bought their bond 65 months, or roughly five and a half years, before winning.
