Zelensky’s message to Europe: The time has come to start Ukraine’s EU integration

The president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky call her European Union to decide the start of accession negotiations with Ukraine by welcoming to Kyiv the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

“It is long past time to remove the artificial political uncertainty in relations between Ukraine and European Union. The time has come to take a positive decision regarding the start of accession negotiations”, he said during the joint press conference with the president of Commission.

It is noted that Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree based on which henceforth Ukraine will celebrate “Europe Day” on May 9.

For her part, Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that “Europe is doing everything it can to erode Putin’s war machine and his revenues”, while insisting that the sanctions are working.

“We have reduced our imports from Russia by almost two-thirds, thus preventing Russia from receiving critical revenue streams,” the head of the Commission argued, pointing out, however, that Ukrainian grain exports must continue.
