The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, published a video of meetings with the new ambassadors of Brazil, Finland, Ireland, Montenegro, Lithuania and Iceland.
He stressed that he intends to develop “intensive interstate dialogue” and thanked him for “support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”.
Rafael de Mello Vidal, Brazil’s new ambassador, had his name approved by the Senate in July this year. See the video below.

During a hearing at the Foreign Relations and National Defense Committee, Vidal classified the conflict in Ukraine as “a second Cold War”.
“It is more dangerous than the first [Guerra Fria]because the first had some ideological motivation that justified it, communism on one side and capitalism on the other. Today, I see that it is more dangerous because it has become a great dispute for the hegemony of world power between both sides of the planet”, said the ambassador at the time.
Who is Rafael de Mello Vidal
Vidal was born in Montevideo, capital of Uruguay, in 1964. Despite being born abroad, he is considered a natural Brazilian, and it was in Brazil where he trained and began his career.
He graduated in Law in 1987, and in 1991 he began a diplomatic career. Between 1995 and 1998, he was deputy consul of the Brazilian consulate general in the United States.
He was elected Brazilian ambassador for the first time in Mali in 2019, and since 2020, he has been the Brazilian ambassador to Angola.
