Zelensky builds ‘fighter alliance’ in Berlin, calls for more weapons

“Your presence here is a strong message. For 444 days now, Ukrainians have stood firm and heroic against the Russian attack. We will support you for as long as it takes. Our solidarity is complete and steadfast”said Olaf Solz welcoming Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

“Thank you for every mother and every child you have saved”the Ukrainian president replied and, referring to the new package – the largest so far – of aid from Germany, amounting to 2.7 billion euros, he said: “Thank you Olaf”.

Mr. Zelensky, however, stressed that his country needs more weapons to continue to defend itself against Russia and said he is working to create a “fighter alliance” so that Ukraine, he said, can finally acquire modern fighter jets. “I will also contact the German side, to support us in this alliance”said Mr. Zelensky and added that the issue will be raised in the second part of the talks that follow in the chancellery.

Responding to a question about whether Ukraine is carrying out attacks on Russian territory, Volodymyr Zelensky denied the relevant information and countered: “We are not attacking Russian territory, we are liberating our territories.”
