The fifth reactor at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Russia-occupied Ukraine was reconnected to the Ukrainian grid on Friday, a day after it was closed due to bombings near the site, Ukrainian state-owned nuclear company Energoatom said. .
“Currently, two reactor blocks are working at the station, generating electricity for Ukraine’s needs,” Energoatom said on the Telegram messaging app, adding that the fifth reactor was reconnected at 1:10 pm local time (1010 GMT).
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a UN institution, traveled to the plant on Wednesday (31) “to carry out essential nuclear safety and security activities and safeguards”, the agency said.

An adviser to Ukraine’s presidency accused Russia of trying to sabotage the inspectors’ visit to the nuclear plant by bombing nearby Enerhodar. The adviser compared the Russian attitude to actions of “a terrorist state”.
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is the largest in Europe and was occupied by Russian troops in March, but it continues to be operated by Ukrainian engineers despite repeated bombings on its territory, for which Kiev and Moscow mutually blame each other.
