Russia made an ironic comment about the USA, through the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova. The official commented on the criminal prosecution of former United States President Donald Trump, “hitting” White House official John Kirby’s statement that all Americans in Russia should leave the country immediately.
It was preceded by the arrest of the American correspondent of the “Wall Street Journal” newspaper in Moscow, Evan Gerskovich.
“John Kirby, the spokesman for the White House National Security Council, made yet another statement that American journalists reportedly do not feel safe in Russia as they may be at risk of imprisonment. John, in the United States even US presidents don’t feel safe, as they can risk imprisonment,” Maria Zakharova pointedly said.
The criminal prosecution of former US President Donald Trump is an “internal” matter for the United States, and not one that Russia will comment on, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday during a regular call with the journalists.
“I don’t think that’s an issue for any of our comments. These are internal American processes that we do not consider necessary to comment on in any way,” Peskov said. Vladimir Putin has reportedly endorsed Trump for re-election via social media.
