Yves Rocher inaugurates the second era of sustainability

Since 1959 in La Gacilly, Brittany, Monsieur Rocher gave life to Cosmétique Végétale, the philosophy of Yves Rocher has always been to magnify beauty through nature and vice versa, shaping a virtuous union between it and science, and recovering a harmonious relationship between man and the environment.

The second fundamental stage of this journey dates back to 1975: when a ethnobotanical gardena two-hectare oasis which still today safeguards and preserves around 1500 plant species and has become the symbol of the brand's commitment to positive agriculture and
reduction of environmental impact. A mission that is expressed in all dimensions, from the botanical one of study and innovation, to that of the collection of raw materials, production and distribution. Yves Rocher's objective and commitment to reconnect people to nature was made official in 2021 with the change of the company statute to a Benefit company.

Towards a more sustainable future

The growth path of the company, which last year in Italy sold 17 million products, in 2024 focuses on two founding values: the botanical expertise at the center of all the formulas for increasingly natural and skin-friendly cosmetics, and the mission to preserve the planet and those same resources that are so precious for the skin. Thus the movement was born Act Beautiful: an involvement program in favor of more responsible beauty that takes shape through 10 concrete initiatives including the desire to create eco-friendly packaging, with less plastic, and the goal of reducing the plastic used in packaging by 30% by 2030.

The new eco-refills

Over the years, the Yves Rocher Foundation has supported the brand with initiatives to support biodiversity such as Plant For Life, the global planting program to regenerate the soil, which has reached the milestone of 100 million trees planted worldwide and 50,000 scheduled for 2024 on Italian territory, and Terre de Femmes, the project that supports female entrepreneurship in the ethical and social field.

The latest initiative implemented this year by the Foundation is the collaboration with Plastic For Change an association that deals with developing waste recycling solutions and the so-called Ocean Bound Plastic, i.e. the plastic that pollutes the ocean waters. This recovery campaign helps to develop recycling solutions in regions where waste management is not optimal, to improve the social conditions of communities that live from the collection of this waste and the schooling conditions of children.

The fruit of this new collaboration is the recovery of 120 tons of plastic along the Indian coast, subsequently used by Yves Rocher in the creation of eco-refill containers, a new Bath and Shower linedue out in June, made of recycled plastic which reduces its use by 80% and is completely recyclable.
