YouTube plans mandatory 30-second ads

YouTube has disclosed that it plans to introduce 30-second, non-skippable ads on Smart TVs. The news was revealed at Brandcast, the company’s event aimed at brands and advertisers that took place on Wednesday (17) at Lincoln Center, in New York.

“This format also fits perfectly with what viewers already expect and experience on the big screen. Instead of seeing two 15-second ads consecutively, they’ll see a 30-second ad.” This change will be available on Youtube Select, a tool for brands to choose popular channels to advertise.

Another novelty will appear when the viewer pauses a video. The content will shrink in size to make room for an ad on the right side of the screen.

For now, the news will only be implemented in the United States. There is no estimated arrival date in Brazil.
