Google is working on making it easier to search videos on YouTube, as well as the ability to switch audio tracks to expand the availability of content to users from different countries. The company is currently testing some features, so they may already be available to individual users.
Search inside the video is perhaps one of the most interesting features that will allow you to enter a phrase and find the part of the video where it is pronounced. YouTube will show an excerpt with a time interval, and users will be able to click on it to go directly to the moment of speaking the phrase. This feature is not something new and unique. In fact, this is a text transcript of the video, which has long existed in the web version of YouTube, though only in manual mode. Last October, the service team said it would allow people to do the same on mobile devices. Since then, the app for iOS or Android has the ability to view the text transcript of the video, but there was no search.
The company also announced “Courses” – the ability to make educational videos. In simple words, the authors will be able to give lectures and launch their own training courses, attach additional materials to the videos – PDF files, images and other documents, as well as use a specialized interface. But the most interesting thing is not even that, but the fact that Google will allow you to embed multiple audio tracks in videos to make educational content available in different languages. This feature is currently in beta testing in India and works similarly to subtitles – users go to the video settings, go to the audio track menu and select one of the available languages. You can try out how it works in this video:
Google says it uses third-party AI-powered translation and dubbing services. Videos with multiple audio tracks will be appropriate in countries where there are multiple official languages or when you need to reach an international audience.
