It is often said that on television we always see the same faces and that we need to invest and focus on new, fresh and young names like that of Stephen DeMartinoso that they bring novelties and rejuvenate a category that is still too anchored to the past, and we agree. Those who follow our newspaper know, in fact, how much we believe in talent with the hope that it will grow more and more and become stronger, only that, when things don’t start out rightwe think it is wise to point this out because, if we did not do so, we would not help the people directly involved to improve until they reach the recognition they deserve. This is the case, precisely, of De Martino, one of the most promising presenters we have, and of his debut at the helm of Your business after Amadeus’ farewell. Beyond the excellent ratings, certainly the result of the curiosity effect but also of zero competition, considering that Mediaset with Strip and the Nine with Who knows who it is they still have to “light up”, we must say that the debut didn’t convince us muchand for several reasons.
That Stefano De Martino has talent and talent to spare is beyond question and yet, especially in the first episodes, it seemed that emotion and rigidity had the better of competence. The fault of a format as sealed as that of a quizwhich Stefano had never conducted before, but also of a role, that of a solitary guide without a cast to support him and give him a hand, with which he still has to get to grips. The result was a performance with the handbrake on. because it seemed to us that Stefano, especially in the first episode broadcast on Rai1 on September 2nd, was so focused and worried about doing his job (rightly) well that neglect the connection with the competitor towards which all his attention should be poured, rejoicing and suffering with him at every “unpacked” package.

This empathy is present in all the programs that Stefano De Martino has hosted on Rai2, from Tonight everything is possible to Star Barthis time it seemed little, even if probably the reason is linked to the emotion of being on Rai1 and the anxiety of being on air after the controversies in which he was the protagonist (it has something to do with a certain Arianna Meloni). It’s fair: we’re still in the first week and there will be time and space to improve but, in the meantime, we would advise Stefano De Martino to try to be less rigid and to let himself go. Now that he has entered the A series of presenters, it is more necessary than ever to work even harder so that this leap takes him even further, where he deserves to be.
