A 26-year-old Palestinian man accused by the Israeli army of firing on one of his patrols in the West Bank was shot dead by members of the latter on Wednesday, a source close to the Israeli army said.
Mohammed Isa Abbas was killed after being hit in the back by Israeli soldiers in the al-Amari refugee camp in Ramallah, the Palestinian Authority’s health ministry said. Israeli troops “returned fire” on one of their vehicles and hit the attacker, said an Israeli army official.
The victim was taken in critical condition to a hospital in Ramallah where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the ministry.
The young man’s death came a day after a Palestinian man who allegedly tried to throw his car at Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint was killed near the northwestern city of Jenin.
On Monday, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry denounced the decision of the Israeli staff to give the green light to its soldiers to open fire directly on Palestinians who throw stones or Molotov cocktails even as they try to escape.
“The decision will allow” even more executions of “Palestinians” depending on the appetites, moods and crises of the Israeli soldiers, “the Palestinian foreign minister said in a statement.
