Young German claims to be Madeleine McCan and goes viral with alleged evidence

A 21-year-old German woman has gone viral after claiming to be Madeleine McCan, a British child who disappeared 16 years ago. The disappearance has become one of the most mysterious police cases in the world, still unsolved.

The woman, who says her name is Julia, created an Instagram profile with the name “ I am Madeleine McCann” last Tuesday (14) which already has more than 104 thousand followers.

In the 35 posts – between photos, videos and texts – she shows “evidence” that she is the missing British woman and asks for help trying to talk to Kate and Gerry McCan, Madeleine’s parents.

The profile biography reads, in English: “I think I’m Madeleine. I need a DNA test. UK and Polish Police investigators try to ignore me. I will tell my story here. Help me”.

In several photos posted, the German shows similarities from when she was younger with the missing girl, such as the famous eyeliner, nose, smile and even ears. She also compares her face to that of Maddie’s parents.

In one of the first posts Julia says that she doesn’t remember most of her childhood, but that she has a very strong memory of a vacation in a warm place with white houses – an almost perfect description of the Algarve, in Portugal, where Maddie disappeared.

Julia also says that when she was a child she was abused by a man who looked like her. Christian Brueckner, a 43-year-old German who British and German authorities identified as a suspect in 2020.

In the hundreds of comments, opinions differ. Some say they really look alike and others don’t see the similarities.

“Shouldn’t Kate and Gery have seen this already? Why is nothing happening? Why is this not in the news? Very bizarre ”, says an internet user, while some others argue that even if “Julia” is not Madeleine, she should be given help to try to discover her true identity.

remember the case

Madeleine has been missing since May 3, 2007, when she disappeared from a resort apartment in the Algarve, Portugal, where she slept with her siblings while her parents dined a few meters away. She would turn 4 years old.

The case had great worldwide repercussions, mainly due to the huge publicity campaign carried out by the girl’s parents to try to discover her whereabouts. About 600 people were investigated and four were considered suspects but later acquitted.

In September 2007, Portuguese police classified Kate and Gerry McCann, Madeleine’s parents, as suspects in their daughter’s disappearance, after DNA was found in a car the family rented 25 days after reporting her disappearance.

They denied all allegations and subsequently the case against them was dropped.

One of the milestones in the investigation took place in June 2020, when British and German authorities announced that they had identified Christian Brueckner, a 43-year-old German at the time, as a suspect in the case. He was a convicted drug dealer and child molester.

But Brueckner has not been charged with any crime related to the disappearance. He is behind bars in Germany for raping a woman in the same region of the Algarve where Madeleine disappeared.

As recently as May 4, 2022, Hans Christian Wolters, the German prosecutor who has been investigating the case since 2020, said that detectives believe they have found “some facts and new evidence”, adding: “We are sure that he [Brueckner] is the murderer of Madeleine McCann”.
