American unmanned aircraft (UAV) was shot down today by Houthi in Yemenas announced earlier today by Iran-backed rebels and later confirmed by a top US military official, according to the Times of Israel.
“Our air defenses shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper that was performing a hostile mission in the airspace of Yemen,” spokesman Yahya Sharia told Al-Masirah television.
A senior US military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the claim and added that it was being investigated whether the UAV was flying over Yemen or in international airspace.
The Houthi spokesman explained that “hostile actions” such as the sending of the American UAV “will not prevent us from continuing our military operations against Israeli targets.”
Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7, the Houthis have launched attacks against Israel with missiles and drones.
