The Federal Police arrested five people linked to illegal mining in the Yanomami Territory and carried out 15 search and seizure warrants, on the morning of this Tuesday (3), during Operation Taurus Aureus.
This Tuesday’s action combats the logistics and financing of criminal organizations involved in illegal mining on indigenous lands in the North of Brazil.
In addition to the arrests, the court also ordered the Federal Police to grant requests that affect the financing of mining logistics. The PF seized vehicles and a farm belonging to the group under investigation.
The researchers say that these are legal measures to guarantee and repair the “immeasurable environmental damage caused by the activity”.
The action is carried out in the states of Roraima and Rondônia.
The PF says that the measures seek to decapitalize the criminal organizations responsible for the exploitation of illegal mining.
The warrants are directly linked to Operation Liberation, the permanent action initiated in February 2023 by order of the then Minister of Justice Flávio Dino, to remove invaders from the Yanomami Indigenous Land.
