Smartphones of the POCO sub-brand come with a slightly modified version of the MIUI firmware (it is even called differently – MIUI for POCO) and, accordingly, with a slightly modified launcher called POCO Launcher. From the very beginning, it was also distributed through Google Play, thanks to which even owners of smartphones from third-party manufacturers can install it. However, now, apparently, Xiaomi has stopped supporting POCO Launcher in the Google Play version.
Tech blogger @kacskrz found a notification in the POCO Launcher code from Google Play that support for this version of the application was discontinued on April 1, 2022 – the latest version available is compatible with devices based on Android 11 and older, and this is confirmed in practice.
The end of support for the Google Play version of POCO Launcher means that Xiaomi, apparently, decided to make this launcher exclusive to POCO smartphones – perhaps it was too resource-intensive to optimize it for gadgets from other manufacturers (but this is just a guess). Owners of POCO devices will be able to update the launcher through firmware updates or MIUI component updates.
